Mission Statement

This is a Christ centered smoking cessation program designed to help believers stop smoking. In this program, participants will be encouraged and helped through this process by believers who care for them.
I was a smoker for forty years, and after giving my life to Christ in February of 2000, I became convicted of the fact that I still smoked. As the desire to quit smoking got stronger, the Lord took me through a process leading up to the point where I finally came out of denial, admitted I was powerless to quit on my own, and finally turned my nicotine addiction over to Christ.
That was July of 2000, and I haven’t smoked a cigarette since. I am proof you can put-off this nicotine addiction through the power of Christ. I have based this program on what I have learned through being a certified Biblical counselor and being part of the leadership in a Christ centered recovery program. How is this done? Through:
Rising from Ashes is a Christ centered program to encourage believers in Christ to stop smoking. It is based on Biblical principles, counseling techniques and recovery principles. This program is a seven week program where participants will go through a process that will enable them to turn their nicotine addiction over to Christ. As you can see, this is not a passive program. It will take hard work and perseverance to make being smoke-free a reality. There are no guarantees that you will be smoke free at the end of this seven week process, but for those who have stuck with the process many have been successful and remain smoke free today.
Cigarette smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals, 69 of which are known to cause cancer. Smoking is directly responsible for approximately 90 percent of lung cancer deaths and 80-90 percent of COPD (emphysema and chronic bronchitis) deaths.

Rising from Ashes is a Word-inspired program designed to help people break free from the chains of nicotine addiction. The Lord designed us to live freely and to serve Him, being a slave to nothing. Smoking damages our physical bodies and our ability to carry out our earthly ministry. Our bodies are designed to begin healing the damage caused by smoking within hours of the last cigarette. It is truly amazing!
Jesus asked the man who had been lame for 38 years lying beside the pool of Bethesda hoping to get in and be healed, “Do you want to be well?” The skills and scriptures provided through RFA are powerful, practical, and possible! I would encourage anyone who is sick and tired of being shackled by the chains of nicotine addiction, no matter how long those shackles have been on you, to come check it out. The healing pool is right beside you, so the question is, “Do you want to be well?” Is so, take advantage of this wonderful ministry based upon God’s healing Word! – Dr. Lori Deemer
Just thought I would touch base with you. I was the super pregnant one at last year’s class. I missed quite a lot because I was sick and very pregnant. I had been smoke free since July. I reached my 18 months a few weeks ago. I know your class gave me tools, and strength, and the weapons to fight! Thank you so much!

Rising from ashes is an excellent program in my opinion and you have Jim Moreland that I guarantee will be there for you day or night. With this being a Christ centered program you will have more support to help you beat this addiction. Testimonies, small groups, prayer and weekly meetings will help you. You will find Jim to be a kind and caring man, very passionate in his role to help you find freedom from smoking. He genuinely cares. Also what makes this program so good is that Jim was a smoker for forty years. He knows what you are going through. I believe it’s important for this program to be led by someone who has truly been in our shoes. I believe everyone should give this program a chance. Even if you don’t quit the first time around, it’s very educational and will help you be successful when you decide it is time.

To assist God’s people in finding freedom from addiction to cigarette smoking (nicotine). This will be accomplished through practical application of God’s principles based on His Word. Through patience, love, grace and encouragement each participant will take an active role in their battle against this addictive behavior, by completing weekly assignments. These assignments will consist of practical homework, Scripture memorization, small group discussions, creating an accountability team, and prayer. Our mission is to allow the Holy Spirit complete freedom in this workshop.

Jim Moreland has been a pastor at a small country church for five and a half years. Before becoming a pastor, he worked in a biblical counseling ministry and was part of the leadership team of a successful recovery ministry. As a smoker of almost forty years, in one miraculous night he was set free of smoking. Let him share this process with you!
